Hi all,
I have a mom who is experiencing severe engorgement -- the breasts seem to
RETAIN all the extra fluids of that intial period and stay like that. She
finally quit bf at 3 months last time (combo of work schedule and the
perpetually engorged breasts). She is (as of yesterday) 3 days pp, is
pumping diligently for her baby who is in the NICU, and getting about 2 1/2
ounces per pumping -- and engorgement is alive & well. We are doing cabbage
(a lot), icy cold compresses, and yesterday I suggested some sage. I'm not
interested so much in decreasing milk supply as I am in getting rid of this
what appears to be permanent engorgement.
This mom also experienced a nasty inflammatory mastitis under one br during
her pregnancy which resolved w/o antibiotics -- never felt "sick" just an
inflammed breast which finally resolved.
Suggestions?
