Glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (sometimes called
Mediteranean anemia) is an enzyme deficiency that makes the cell
membranes of red blood cells less stable.  Hemolytic crises (breakdown
of massive numbers of red blood cells) can be precipitated by ingesting
reducing substances.  Fava beans, pediazole (a US pediatric antibiotic)
are examples of contraindicated substances.  I cannot see how a mom
eating these things could endanger the baby through her milk, but I
don't know that it's impossible either.  In general, the list is not so
long that avoiding them would be onerous.
