Very few corporate entities actually make more money when more women breast
feed longer. The breast pump industry in the only one which comes to mind.
I have always thought it was OK to accept their support.
I am actually OK with their letting moms know that they can pump and then use
bottles in exigent circumstances. The bottles are not the problem, the
artificial baby milk manufacturers and distributors are the ones responsible
for increased illness and death (death!) in babies throughout the world.
I have appeared on TV shows which had ABM sponsorship. I don't think that
there is a "fine line" between this (not great, but a tough choice) and
having a formula banner on one's own web site. The line is dark and bold.
The Sears, some of the most wonderful people in the world, in my opinion,
have made a large mistake. I have trouble believing that money was the sole
motivation but am hard-pressed to figure out what else could have been.
