I can honestly say that my own daughter and I avoided any use of
artificial formula AND sugar water. The only thing she had other than
"me" until she was 6 months was any bathwater she might have swallowed
(?) and her simethicone drops (and that, only for about a 4-6 week
period). She has only recently started drinking a tiny bit of water
every once in a while ("for practice") with a sippy cup at SOME
mealtimes. That is all...though she does feed herself solids now (a
whole 1 tbsp or so per meal).
