I know nothing about this issue (simian virus in polio vaccines) but one
should never assume that because the CDC says something it is done on the
basis of evidence. The decision in 1985 to discourage breastfeeding for
hiv-positive women was based on 4 cases in total taken from letters written
to the New England Journal of Medicine (Thiery et al and Zieglar et al). As
far as I know this decision was never reviewed. It is one of the many
reasons why I have a big problem with the studies that are sponsored by the
NIH in Africa in regard to hiv transimission with abrupt weaning and giving
infants formula or some concoction. One just cannot assume that the
government is a neutral party in research. Nor can anyone assume that
university research is devoid of pharmaceutical/biotech influence. Valerie W.
