Animal Planet tonight had a program on Panda breeding in captivity in
China.
The mother, Lucy, had just given birth to a male. He did not have the
usual inborn instinct to find her teat and Lucy was not helping him
much. The breeders showed her a Panda video on a successful Panda mother
gently holding her baby and nudging it toward first one teat and then
the other. Lucy learned from the video how to handle and nudge her new
baby to her teat successfully. He began to thrive after a worrisome
start.
If Pandas can learn this from a video and not in the wild, why can't
human moms?
