If I could have three things attended to by Ob/gyns, I would (1) have them
screen every pregnant woman for flat/inverted nipples, yet at the same time
have the stress to women that they have "beautiful breasts that are perfect
for breastfeeding." If the nipples are flat/inverted, I would have them
explain that 25% of the population has this and that we can work around it.
(2) have every Ob/gyn attend a La Leche League series of meetings (1-4) and
a toddler group (or better yet, a LLLI conference with all the
professionals, toddlers, infants, dads, moms and grandparents running
about--I just received my registration packet for this year's conf.);
and
(3) help them to be acutely aware of what breast yeast is REALLY like to
experience and what to do to REALLY help moms overcome it with effective
treatment and probiotics to rebuild the mom's beneficial intestinal
bacteria.
As I was writing this, I felt like the breastfeeding jeanie or fairy god
mother had just descended and asked me "what 3 wishes I had."
Warmly in soggy Oregon (but we had 4 days of great sun before this),
