It's my experience and strong feeling that babies can breastfeed at almost
ANY respiratory rate.
6o breaths per minute is a completely normal number for newborns and even
babies in the first day or two in spite of anything you might read in a book.
Obviously, a baby breathing this fast who doesn't look good requires more
investigation, but a baby who DOES look good can be observed and nursed at
60-80 breaths/minute. Watch closely, though.
