I am so glad that we (LLL) had a booth at this Baby Faire in Chicago. By the
feeding area was a large poster of a mom bottle feeding. Every magazine
freebie had tons of bottle/formula adds. Many with the "comfort protein"
formula adds. These proteins are just like mother's milk! NOT!!! All the
breastfeeding moms in these magazines were in bathrobes and not discreetly
nursing while the bottle feeding moms were dressed and smiling. There were
booths with blankets that hold bottles, a special bottle that does not let as
much air in, a medicine bottle booth, and bottles in every give away basket.
At least 2 formula companies with HUGE booths.
Dr. Beard gave a Jeopardy Game at the formula booth. One fact I did notice
was that iron "would not" be hard on baby's stomach. They also gave each
person listening to the information tons of samples of the formula. She said
children should start on cups at 7 months. They had an adult drink to try
from the same company.
People were pleased we were there. Our sign said, La Leche league,
Breastfeeding support. MANY pregnant moms stopped by to see what we were
about. Many others asked where to nurse their babies. Some had specific
questions. It was never a dull moment.
I was so happy that I had members and leader volunteers for the day to help
myself and Jonathan (my almost 4 month old).
I encourage other states that have this event to attend.
