Mary asked for info on Standing Orders. Our Newborn Admission Orders say:
"Per mother's desire, the infant may breast or bottle feed.
Breastfeeding - to breast as soon as awake and rooting, or mother is ready,
or by 4 hours of age and then q 2-5 h (approximately 8 feeds/24 hours) on
demand.
Formula feeding - q 3-4 h (approximately 8 feeds/24 hours), begin with ½ oz.
20 cal formula q 3-4 h increasing to 2 oz. as tolerated
I hope this will be helpful to you. We deliberately tried to make it kind
of vague, stating the approximately 8 in 24 hours to allow for normal
newborn variations."
