Jean, and others who may have it handy: "Breastfeeding Outlook" had a far
less "detailed and complicated" synopsis of this important study in the
summer issue, 1999. The important thing to remember here is that these kids
were *exclusively* breastfed for 6 months, and we can't necessarily
generalize the results to kids here in the US, who are, typically, NOT
exclusively breastfed.

>significant protective factor against the development of obesity. In a
>corss-sectional survey of 9357 German children aged 5-6 years, the
>prevalence of obesity in children who had never been breastfed was 4.5%
>compared with 2.8% in children who were breastfed. There was also a
>dose-response effect for the duration of breast feeding on the prevalence
>of obesity."
