Dry breastfeeding refers to pumping immediately before attempting to
nurse/feed a child with a medical problem such as respiratory distress or
prematurity. Doing so allows the child to practice the mechanics of
breastfeeding and imprint upon the mother without having to contend with a
significant volume of milk. Also referred to as "empty breastfeeding."
While I agree with most of the comments, supplying MD's with references from
reputable journals gets their attention. Writing this letter is an attempt
to introduce new ideas/to promote change they will be given more credibility
if a reference is supplied.. This is what has worked for me in the past. If
you have another idea or "formula" for promoting change in this direction--I
