Jennifer,

I respect and even admire that you can do this, but I also have to make some
sort of a minimal contribution to the family income from my work.
After all, this is a *profession*, and we have been working so hard to try
to get this acknowledged everywhere.
I feel can be undermining to the profession to see someone free of charge
for a complex problem that requires the skill of an IBCLC.

Still, I do contribute quite a bit of my skills and knowledge "free of
charge" at my monthly LLL meetings, and through LLL phone counseling. But
if someone needs to be seen, that is where I draw the line.

I can understand if many LC's left LLL because of this comflict. I continue
to do both because I enjoy it, I enjoy the monthly meetings and the mother
to mother support. I have many mothers whom I see as an IBCLC later join
our LLL group, much more than the other way around. I try to stay
"loyal" both to LLL and to my professional status of IBCLC, but I have
often felt quite challenged by this conflict.
