Hi all,

I'm just back from Chicago. Spent the week at the American Academy of
Pediatrics National Meeting in Chicago. The highpoint was Dr. Satcher (US
Surgeon General's) short speech on the new breastfeeding initiative from the
US Dept of Health and Human Services. He was added on as a last minute
speaker for the last day's plenary session. He was articulate and
enthusiastic about improving breastfeeding rates in the US with a special
emphasis on African American women. He also brought the monograph which
describes the initiative in detail. The official title of the monograph,
"Breastfeeding, HHS Blueprint for Action on Breastfeeding." It can be found
on the HHS/OWH website at www.4woman.gov or call (in US) 1-800-994-9662 or
TDD 1-888-220-5446.

As for the Medem-Doc Website thing with Nestle. Quite a few people I ran
into were upset about the "ABM ad" on their website. I also found out it was
quite easy to take the dang thing off and also will be deleting the
"bottlefeeding" article from my site. I would caution folks to "jump to
conclusions" about the lack of activism on the part of doctors.
Newspaper reporting isn't exactly unbiased especially when there is some
controversy.

I can afford to pay the $30 a month thank you very much.

Pierrette Mimi Poinsett MD, FAAP

P.S. (I am hoping that this Surgeon General will be around for the next four
years!)
