How about LCs also backing down on this issue because of physicians
being angry.........When I gave a Pedi copies of tongue tie info copied
from Ruth Lawrence's latest edition, the article from JHL by Brian
Palmer, and the page on tongue tie from Kathleen Huggins' book (that the
pts. receive in their marketing formula pack for discharge), at a later
meeting said she disregarded the info and needed some from more
'mainstream' sources. My 4 LC colleagues and nurse manager also at the
meeting said nothing. The tongue tie policy was changed to not address
the issue until baby is over 48 hrs old.........
The same Peds doc yelled (yes, yelled) at me in the nursery forbidding me
to discuss tongue tie with parents. I was close to contacting the ethics
board at my hospital, but 18 months later now, I am working lactation at
a different hospital.
If these things don't kill you they make you stronger!!
Big 10-4, Kathleen, on setting the ego aside and let's do what is
best for the moms/babies.
