Hello, I have been lurking so long I probably should re-intro myself. I am
a general pediatrician at Tulane Medical Center Hospital for Children, and
I am very interested in breastfeeding for many years now. I have just met
with the marketing director for the hospital about starting up a referral
clinic for breastfeeding problems ( not so much routine problems, even
though I would take them, but clipping frenula, slow weight gain, being a
resource about medication use in lactating women, allergic colitis etc) I
plan to market the clinic in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the
extreme western panhandle of Florida. So this e-mail has 2 purposes:
1. to alert any of you in the above mentioned areas that I am available
2. to hear any ideas that any of you may have that would make this clinic
great: what sorts of things would you like to see in such a clinic if
there was one in your area?
In regards to tongue tie, I am in the infancy stages of planning a study
looking at this issue. I have clipped about 8 frenula now and have been
very pleased with the positive impact that it had on breastfeeding for the
majority (7/8.) I feel the most important issue is getting a good
definition of tongue-tie, and I want to use Hazelbaker's tool. This was a
major flaw in the Messner article, I feel.
