Hi to all! I am a new lactation specialist in Arizona and am needing some
help finding research to support my argument with a local pediatrician's
policy of supplementing EVERY breastfed newborn with formula if the baby
does not nurse within a)three hours of birth, and/or b)three hours of the
last nursing in the hospital (ridiculous, I know!). I have searched the
ARCHIVES unsuccessfully and am wondering if any of you have articles on the
medically accepted length of time one should allow a newborn to go
a)without nursing immediately after birth (if the child does so
unsuccessfully or is too sleepy), and
b) between the first or second feeds of life and subsequent feedings on the
first day or so of life.
Thank you for your help!
