I would like to apologize to Lactnet and especially to Mary Kay Smith for
the sharpness of my response to her request for information.
I am sorry that I let something that pushes my personal buttons, provoke a
response that would have been better left unsent, or possibly sent directly
to Mary Kay. If I had written directly to her I likely would have realized
that the tone of my post was unpleasant and inappropriate.
Where I live I am lumped into the bag called 'immigrants' whom the dominant
culture discusses incessantly as if we were all the same, and not as a
compliment. I sometimes escape notice as an immigrant because I share the
skin color of most ethnic Norwegians and through marriage I have a Norwegian
name, and I speak it fluently. But I am hypersensitive about
generalizations along broad lines such as skin color, or even ethnicity.
It's been a rough week in Norway, folks. If you are interested in more
info, go to www.aftenposten.no and click on the English banner. This is no
excuse for being rude, and again, I apologize.
