Dear Dawn,
I can't imagine why this mother would have to wean at this point. Have the doctors given her a specific reason? Extra medullary hematopoiesis refers to the production of blood cells which is happening outside of the bone marrow. Don't know how this is linked to a breast lump. Was the lump cancerous? Mother can be biopsied, have bone marrow extracted and blood drawn without weaning - it happens all the time. What on earth does any of this have to do with breastfeeding? She may have to wean at some point if she gets a dx of CA and needs to undergo chemo. She needs to talk with her doctors again and ask more questions.
