We have a level 3 NICU. Our moms are given the sterile specimen
cups to bring their milk in. (Tried the bags, but NICU nurses found
them too awkward to use.) Mom is also given a sheet baby's hospital
labels. They have enough white space on them for her to write the
date and time of collection. They also have the hospital number and
can avoid confusion if there are more than one baby with the same
last name. Each mom's milk is kept in a separate tray in the
freezer. If mom has an oversupply in her tray for what baby is
taking, she may be asked to keep some of the milk at home Until the
tray isn't so full.
