<<I also work in an institution where babies are forced to eat, in our case
within 6 hours yet our public relations people have begun to use the words
"Birthing Center" to describe our well decorated but medically backward
Maternal Child Unit.>>
Carla,
The above is so true! Your "institution" (perfect description) sounds very
much like mine. Here is why I say that the larger "culture" precludes normal
bf. Or I guess it is the hospital culture, but also the larger epidural,
bottle, formula, babies should sleep thru the nite, etc culture that really
interferes. This is why I really want to go into priv. practice. But then
again I feel that if I (other advocates) leave, what will these moms and
babies be left with to help them w/ bf? Couldn't one of the "wise ones" be
elected US President?
