I see SO many cases of thrush here in the inner city. I wonder if it is
because so many babies are fed both bottle and breast?? I am fortunate
that the MD's I work with, ask me what to do for these moms, so I tell
them - She needs a prescription and so does the baby. I usually grab a
family practice doc or pediatrician. They are usually ready to learn ( I
say, can you take a moment with me to look at this lady and her baby
that I'm working with?) and point out what I see and what the cause
could be based on clinical findings and experience. I have seen 2 cases
in the last 2 weeks that were so bad that the mom's nipples were
BLEEDING! (and baby's mouths were solid white!) I've been using
hydrogels for comfort and healing, and even used a nipple shield for 24
hours in one case and both babies are STILL nursing.
