Leptospirosis is common in the Pacific Islands where pig urine runs into
rivers where people swim, wash, play, make sakau (kava, kava). My husband has
been infected twice. Leptosrirosis is a spirochet (spiral) bacteria that if
not treated, can harm the liver and kidneys. The early onset is flu like
symptoms.

The CDC has information on their website.

Loois Englberger, are you out there? Pohnpei has plenty of leptospirosis
infections. Maybe Lois can add to this thread?

I suggest your client relax, eat heathy foods, strengthen her immune system
with echanacea, garlic, vitamin C, drink lots of clean water.

Since she knows she has been exposed, she can seek treatment if she has any
of the flu like symptoms. I bet there is a lab somewhere that can test her
for exposure if she is really needs to know.

Warmly,
