Subject: hand expression for cultures
re: hand expression funnels:
I will answer just for myself, and if our other staff members care to add their own experiences they might, as they are also on Lactnet. We haven't found a need for what might be an extra step in the expression for culture steps that a hand funnel would necessitate: we only need a small amount and I find the mastitic breast usually doesn't spray the way a breast that _isn't_ indurated and in pain will. For those optimally functioning breasts I agree, you have to "aim for the bathtub"! We don't have to catch 'all' the milk - just those from some ducts, or certain ducts. I've found it's usually a fast process. We usually just need to send about 10ml.
