The company that made this is Genentech in San Francisco. You might want to
view their history (began in 1976).

"1985 Genentech received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) to market its first product, Protropin® (somatrem for injection) growth
hormone for children with growth hormone deficiency — the first recombinant
pharmaceutical product to be manufactured and marketed by a biotechnology
company.
1986 Genentech’s interferon alpha-2a — licensed to Hoffmann-La Roche, Inc"
I read a commentary in a news article that couldn't understand why other
countries were suing in regard to the hGH causing mad cow disease in children
but people in sue-happy USA weren't--I'd say good social marketing...One
might want to note the dates when children in the US started getting this
disease with the dates when this product got marketed in the US. Valerie W.
