When I was an ob nurse for over 15 years, I DID have time to help
mothers with breastfeeding!! I saw it as a priority and important and
made time for it......I even had time to help other nurses' patients!
It is a matter of choices and priorities and comfort levels with the
task.
Working with a mom having a post partum hemorrhage was not my
favorite thing, but I was competent and gave safe, standard care. This
should be expected in the area of breastfeeding as well for each and
every OB nurse.
