A mother called me this morning to report that her baby, who is 5 months
old, has had occasional tremors shortly into the feeding at 11:00 amor
so--no other time of day. He began with a 10 second one when he was 2
months old, didn't have another for a month or so, then in the last 2 weeks
he has had several and these are 20-30 seconds long--always at the
beginning of the feeding that comes between 11 am and noon.

The tremors are in his upper body, are rhythmic and jerky.

Baby is seeing a neruologist this afternoon, and mother, in looking for
possible causes, wonders about her 2 large mugs of strong coffee that she
drinks every morning. She drank coffee throughout her pregnancy.

She also smokes 4 cigarettes a day, in the evening. On occasion, she has
up to 10 cigs throughout the day. She smoked throughout her pregnancy.

She also consumes aspertame (Nutra Sweet) in carbonated beverages on
occasion, which she did throughout her pregnancy.

Have any of you had experience with babies with tremors--time-of-day
related and feeding related?

She said that the first time that it extended to 20 seconds, he had cried
for quite a while before she could feed him.

What do you think? She wants to explore diet/cig connections before
putting him through a battery of tests.
