(Hopefully I'm not repeating something already said as I am behind in my
reading and don't have time to catch up today.)

Although I do believe that many interventions occur in hospitals that cause
problems in birth to both the mother and baby, I want to remind those making
comparisons that you can't make a CAUSE-EFFECT conclusion in such
situations. There may be a CORRELATION in how moms look in a hospital vs. at
home after a birth. In other words, healthier mothers may choose home births
more often than less healthy mothers (and for sure some are screened out
because of health problems). Also, hospital birth mothers may look less
healthy postpartum because they can stay in bed if they really want to for
most of the time there whereas a woman at home is more likely to get up with
other children, visitors, etc. There are a lot of factors that make it
complicated to draw any conclusions.
