I disagree with Becky in that this study was a nice pilot study, but the
sample size was small, there was a mixture of moms with insufficient milk and
sufficient milk to start with, and even though there was an AVERAGE increase
in milk, there was a dicotomous pattern: some mothers got a great increase,
and some mothers got little to none. Unfortunately, there was no
investigation of the characteristics of the two groups of mothers, so that we
could be able to predict, adhead of time, responders from non-responders.
There was also no control group (which will be difficult because of the maple
syrup odor). Great start, but not convincing enough to say fenugreek
increases milk supply (although I use it too!).
