BYO formula has always been an interest as I have worked in units which have
done so. I think their have been two main gains from BYo formula. The first
is that not having large amounts of ready to use formula stops health
professionals offering supplements/ top-ups freely. The amount of formula
used drops in amount almost immediately. The second gain is that women
understand from the beginning how difficult it is to formula feed, getting
up to get their formula, making -up feeds and the prepareation of equipment!
They also understand more clearly how to feed their babies.

But without abolishing nurseries and free samples it would be a thankless
task to try to do so.

good luck to all who try,

Christine Wood
