I just received the letter from Medela to days ago and promptly called
my rep.
I live in the city where Babies R Us was founded as Baby Superstore. When it
was Baby Superstore, they were completely for customer service and very
supportive of breastfeeding. The past few years, my clients are complaining
of poor service and I have not gotten referrals for breastfeeding help for
about a year. They stopped sponsoring our LLL brochures and took them out of
their new mother packets--which include coupons for ABM.
My biggest concern with the PINS being sold at Babies R Us is that
mothers will be calling me because they either have too much milk (pumping
when they shouldn't have been), not enough milk, or problems with the pump.
I do not have the time to be handling their problems. Just the other day, a
Dad bought the E******O pump from them and it was missing a part. The
manager would not take it back. Not only that, the manager was rude to this
new Dad. Previous manager was rude to the husband of a LLLL. None of the
leaders in our area will shop at Babies R Us. I also worry about competing
with Babies R Us. I cannot buy in such large quantities and I reserve
selling the PINS until before mothers are ready to go back to work. I don't
believe in my area that mothers will pay more than $250.00 for a pump, no
matter how nice it is. The nipples with the Medela bottles look like we
will have a lot more cases of biting and nipple confusion, especially if used
in the beginning, IMHO.
