So sorry to hear about the loss of all those years of bf information
shredded! We all feel for you!

I had a recent opportunity to point out a place for additional statistics to
be collected: my 8-year-old son was being evaluated for giftedness in the
clinical psychology department of a major university. This department does
hundreds of evaluations each year for behavior problems, learning
disabilities, etc. I had to fill out numerous forms as part of the
evaluation. One multi-page form went into great detail about my son's
developmental milestones, any problems he had as a toddler, when he started
feeding himself, etc., but it did not question whether or for how long he
was breastfed. I wanted them to have this information, and to think it
might be important for future research, so I wrote in that he was
exclusively bf for 6 months and weaned at age 3. I pointed out that to
someone in the department that it might be useful to collect bf'ing data in
this exhaustive history. They certainly asked every other question they
could possibly think of!

I'm not a researcher, but I know that collecting bf data in this way isn't
as good as a contemporaneous history, but wouldn't it be interesting to see
any correlations they might discover in this population between length of
breastfeeding and those other things they were testing for? Are there any
other medical/psychological disciplines which collect bf data as a matter of
course?

P.S. DS tested out to be *very* bright in all categories, which I knew
already <g>. Do you think it was all that breastmilk?
