Has anyone had experience with a teen mother who has a pierced nipple ring and is pumping for her preterm infant ? This is a 28 wk preterm infant.
I'm concerned about bacterial contamination of the milk. I have discussed this with her. She indicated that she will stop pumping before she removes the ring. The discussion was not defensive, she just responded as a typical teen.
The NICU staff has been giving her very positive feedback for her pumping efforts but are also concerned about possible contamination.
Any thoughts ?
