In talking about nipple confusion and the need to get the baby
well-established at the breast before introducing a bottle, I describe the
different mouth activity of breastfeeding and of bottle feeding. I use the
chart/slides from Childbirth Graphics as a visual while I describe the
differences.
Then I compare the two to learning to drive a car with standard transmission
(breastfeeding) and learning to drive a car with automatic transmission
(bottle). I explain that once you learn to drive a standard, you are good
to go on anything. I ask them how many people they know who learned on
automatic want anything to do with driving a standard....
