Debbie,
Metroniazole (Flagyl) can be given in one megadose of (I think) 2000 or 2500
gm, pump & dump for 24 hours. Or, send her to Australia where they very
reasonably have moms on the drug and continue to bf. Arghh!!
The use of bromocriptine as a lactation suppressant is no longer approved by
the FDA. THere has been a ton of information in the literature, in the
paper, even in the JHL & Globe r/t that issue. Next time one of the ER docs
tries to hand it out, ask him if he would like to be the recipient of a
lawsuit if the woman has a stroke while he is giving a drug for which there
is no longer approval for that indication. If he doesn't believe you, have
him contact Sandoz.
Jan B. Frustrated with docs who don't read the literature -- or even the
newspaper! And frustrated with the family practice doc who told a mom to
wean so she could take Advil for her pleurisy!! Double ARGHH!
