I read this statement in R/A that doesn't make sense. It is on p. 342 and
says:
By four months of age, breastfeeding babies were taking less milk (18.7
gm/day) whereas the infants receiving artificial baby milk were taking 23
gm/day.
Obviously, this can't mean 18.7 or 23 gm per day! Could it mean 18.7 gm/per
kg (baby's weight)/day?
It references Butte et. al., 1985, which is Feeding patterns of exclusively
breast-fed infants during the first four months of life. Early Hum Dev
12:291-300, 1985. I searched the archives for information on this study,
without success.

Today I received a response from Dr. Jan Riordan that:
I've checked and, indeed, there is an error.
The second sentence of the third paragraph on pp 342 should read:
By four months of age, breastfeeding babies gained 18.7 gm/day whereas the
infants receiving artificial baby milk gained 23 mg/day.
I apologize for the error. It will be corrected in the next edition. Please
pass this information on to LACTNET subscribers.
Thanks,
Dr. Jan Riordan
