Katherine,
I was disturbed to see the statements made about an anonymous LC in Birmingham, AL. As the past president of the Alabama Breastfeeding Coalition and eleven-year veteran of professional lactation consulting in Alabama, as well as many years of lay consulting, I have come to know these ladies very well. I have no idea who you heard, but I feel that a more professional approach would have been to speak to the LC privately instead of posting her remarks in a way that reflects dimly on all of the LCs in Birmingham. Perhaps you both might have learned something. These ladies have ferociously protected, supported and promoted breastfeeding in an often hostile environment. Each of us has to face enough opposition and hostility from non-supporters without facing the same from our peers. I can imagine how I would have felt to fight the dragons at work, then see LC's in my town disparaged in this forum. Let's at least offer each other a modicum of respect - it's the only way to advance the cause.
