Help! Saw a mom this morning who, during pregnancy, went from a 36 C to a 42
G. Breasts are dense, feel fibrous and edematous, and totally unwieldy.
Areola takes up almost half the breast, and they somewhat dry and scaly w/
skin peeling off on parts of them. Nipples are non-existant. They are there
-- or they used to be -- but it is hard to identify which is nipple and which
is areola when observing them. Doing gentle compression around the nipple
area causes mom discomfort. The info in Lawrence on hypertrophy of the
breasts during pregnancy is not very encouraging. Does anyone know why this
happens, and what the outcome is? What are her chances of producing milk?
She said she leaked somewhat during pregnancy, but so far w/ pumping (3 times
at this point) hasn't gotten even a drop. Breasts feel like a mom who has
had a lot of Pitocin/IV's and an epidural -- but none of the above occurred
(probably the first mom I've had like that in ages).

Any ideas, suggestions?

Has anyone dealt w/ a mom like this?

Jan B -- stumped in Wheaton.
