Hi all,

I have a question about a baby (about 4 months old) that this moment
cannot tolerate human milk, due to secundary lactose intolerance. This
is caused by a very heavy intestional infection. He was in the hopital
for 2 weeks, where there also have been made some mistakes. Eg the
stomach tube was put to far and ended in the small intestines. it was
there for a couple of days. He also had antibiotics. These factors may
have contributed to the secundary lactose intolerance.

He was almost dehydrated.

Now he is recovering, is put on lactose-free HA formula, because the
breastmilk caused him to have severe diarrea, and loosing weigth in a
very high speed. The mother is pumping and has a huge milksupply. He
still takes the breast.

He is finally at home now.

Soon they'll restart giving him human milk . i'll suggest them to
start with small amounts, and build up carefully. Now i'm wondering if
I should suggest to start giving him hindmilk. According to the theory
this would cause the digesting slows down, so that the intestines
would have more time to break down the lactose. But at the same time
i'm afraid the high fat level in hindmilk would be too heavy for him.

any ideas?
