The "PKU" test done on all newborns in the USA is actually serveral different
tests looking for genetic disease.  If the doc wants to start soy formula I
assume the screen for galactosemia was positive.  Galactosemia is the one
absolute contraindication to breastfeeding.  Human milk sugar is lactose.
Lactose is glucose + galactose.  If you do not have the enzyme to metabolize
galactose you have galactosemia.  The galactose builds up in all your tissues
and causes catarracts, brain damage and failure to thrive.
