I'm Barb from Launceston, Tasmania Aus. I am an L.C. who has been working
with difficult feeding problems for 7 years in a parenting centre.
In reply to David Page Tues. 6th June I am interested in any oral
musculatary info.
Together with a physiotherapist we have worked with babies with hypo and
hypertonic suck problems using oro-facial stimulation, with some very good
results.
I'd also be interested in research on suck vs suckle . By suckle do you
mean non-nutritive suck? We have found several poor weight gain babies who
suck non nutritively with low supply or poor let-down. ie hypotonic suck.
OFS increases tone . Sometimes a finger feed stimulates a stronger drawing
suck. Over a period breast feeding (or bottlefeeding) improves.OFS also
improves uncoordinated suck/swallow/breathe patterns.
Enough for now. look forward to any comments. Barb
