Have you ruled out the possibility of mammary tissue there?  I have
seen a couple cases where this was apparantly the case.  There was
no extra nipple, but it was on the line where they can occur.
Treating it with cold and cabbage leaves would help it to "dry up"
just as you might do for a mom's breasts if she wasn't nursing.  If
those treatments don't help then it might be suspicious for
something else.  Since this is her 3rd baby, you would think extra
mammary tissue would have shown up previously but you never know.  I
would think it wouldn't be too big a deal to have a needle biopsy
done in the area if it persists.  That shouldn't interfere with
nursing in any way especially since it's not the primary breast
tissue where the biopsy would occur.
