As an RN and IBCLC , I think that hospitals want IBCLC's who are RN's
because they get "more for the money" so to speak... what I mean is not that
an RN/IBCLC is worth more than an IBCLC, but in the hospital setting they
can pull the RN/IBCLC from IBCLC to RN in a pinch when staffing is short. I
work 12 hours per week as an LC and 8 as an RN, but these roles constantly
overlap, and for me , that is OK.... I love all of my jobs, IBCLC, labor
nurse, mother baby nurse and sick newborn nursery.. I think I am more
valuable because I can do more.....
