Wouldn't it be better to assume that babies should never be *brought* to
their mothers at all, since they should *already be* with their mothers? I
think that you are fighting a losing battle if she take the above-mentioned
approach, for many reasons. I doubt you are suggesting that a baby who sleeps
for 5 hours after birth should not be "brought to his mother" until he is
awake. Mothers and babies need to be together all of the time, not when the
baby is awake or when the baby is rooting or when the baby is crying or
whatever arbitrary guidelines "the powers that be" can come up with this
week. If hospitals want to continue to interfere with birth, they are going
to have to wait even longer for babies to be ready to nurse. Or, here's a
novel idea--how about they stop "managing", "augmenting" and "inducing"
labor. Then they could stop doing the same w/ breastfeeding!
