Although we have this funny e-mail address that my husband and I have
had for years, I am really a person there. My name is Lynne M. Colbath
and I am an RN-C, IBCLC in a small community hospital in North Conway,
NH. I am the only IBCLC for many miles around with the only one other of
the six small hospitals in northern NH having a lactation consultant.
Unfortunately, the area and need is too small for me to be out on my
own. I work in an OB department where we "do it all." In a work day I
might be doing labor and delivery, circulating for a C-section,
providing post-partum care, facilitating a support group, teaching a
breast feeding class, out on a home visit, doing a consult sent in by a
referring doctor or self booked, or floated to the ER or some other
department because they are in crisis; or I might be home on "low
census" because the OB unit is closed! My job as such is both very
rewarding and very frustrating.
I have subscribed to Lactnet in the past, but got away from it for
too long because I could not keep up with it. So here I am back again to
give it a try in hopes that I can stay up with it this time - I have
missed it and I do need to post some new questions for discussion in the
near future.
Lynne M. Colbath, RN-C, BSN, IBCLC
Conway, New Hampshire
