the problem with the short frenulum is NOT only that the baby can't
breastfeed (my professional opinion is that inability to breastfeed is an
emergency, so that the frenulum would need to be clipped immediately, for
instance, not "in ten days"). the long term effects on speech, dental
development, and health are quite severe, and the distress caused by clipping
it at a later age is much more than the distress the baby would feel at this
early age. a referral to a speech therapist might be helpful if the parents
cannot be convinced.
