Hello Lactnetters,
My brief intro: I am currently working as the lactation specialist in a
local hospital and preparing to sit for exam (hopefully) next year. I have
been lurking for quite some time now. I have a question that draws me from
the shadows... Mom of a 4 mos old, bad case of PID, abd surgery including
apendectomy. On 4 abx Zithromax, Clindamycin, Ampicillin and Gentamycin.
Her MD adv to pump & dump. When I arrived in her room, engorgement was
very evident. As we began to pump to relieve her engorgement mom indicated
that she felt abd cramping??!! Would the oxytocin be causing this 4 months
after delivery in a case such as this? Would pumping be contraindicated?
I searched the archives without success. Your input is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Kathy Amell, LVN, TBE
