Just returned from seeing a VERY INTELLIGENT doctor. I explained to him that
I weaned my 4 1/2 yr old, seven months ago for recurrent ductal yeast that
was finally treated with oral Diflucan. Within about two days of taking the
first dose I noticed a big difference. The yeast however was not 'killed' as
they say, just under control for a month or so after Diflucan, so I tried
gentian violet when first symptom reappeared only to my right nipple / my son
only breastfed from this one last two years / that also made diagnosing the
yeast easier-yes I diagnosed it :>). I have posted about the BATTLE that
took place on my breast when I applied the GV! I was amazed at the reaction
to GV and how well it kept the yeast away. Until the 'knife-like' cutting,
tingling, very uncomfortable pain returned (no breastfeeding last 7 months,
remember) after three prophylactic doses of antibiotics received for dental
work this last two months. Armed with JHL article and Chris-Hafner Eaton's
excellent, stupendous article from Mothering magazine I visited a new
physician hoping for a prescription. Voila! He didn't even have to read the
articles, he believed what I was telling him and said ,"Let's get rid of
this." That's what I call a team attitude. I took my first Diflucan 400mg
tonight and will proceed with 200mg daily for 28 whopping days! Boy has this
been an exercise in futility, but have I ever learned...and about something
very important and near and dear to us (some more than others, hah hah)
These travels are not over. I think major lifestyle changes are in order and
I will share as I feel the info is pertinent to all of us as we relate to
breastfeeding mothers...each of us, changing the world, one breastfeeding
mother-baby dyad at a time!
