My understanding is that anemia is a risk factor for infection of any kind.
I have pulled my ref books out and many mention anemia as a risk factor, but
some don't. Stress and fatigue are listed as risk factors, and anemia goes
with fatigue too. Ruth Lawrence mentions culturing the infant's nasopharynx
for recurrent mastitis, and also considering yeast co-infection or secondary
infection after initial antibiotic therapy.
