Wendy;
We did a small research project a year ago in which we asked
Did they recieve a visit from an LC in the hospital?
If so, how helpful was the visit? (one of those 1-5 scales)
Are you still breastfeeding/
If not, how old was baby when you stopped?
Did they call the LC after discharge?
If so how helpful was the visit?
You'd want to cover a similar number of moms that were seen in
hospital and those that weren't. If you have a "Call-a-Nurse" or
"Nurse-on Line" or similar service, they might be able to do the
surveys between help calls.
When we did the survey, 75% of moms we visited in hospital were
still nursing at 3 months vs 50% of those that did not get a visit.
This has helped us in justifying increased FTE's
